This post is designed to answer some questions we get through emails. Fairly general in nature
Q: I have just bought a new truggy / buggy and have the motor run in. I am not ready to race, but would like to get some practice on the track.
A: The area where the track resides is government owned, and is locked up unless there are people using the velodrome, or there is a sanctioned race meet (average every second Sunday). On the off racing Sundays there is usually people at the track after around 10:30am. We are looking in the future to nominate a committee member to be there between 10 - 3 so people can practice. We do run a sportsmans class which is designed for new comers to learn how to race - no matter what their skill. I would encourage new comers to enter the class regardless of ability, its the best way to learn. Best part is you will have marshals to right you when you crash, and the support of the committee to address any issues you have with setup and tuning your car.
Q: I want to race electric 10th scale.
A: CORMCC is happy to run any class as long as there is a minimum of 3 entries. We encourage 10th scale (be it short course or 2 / 4wd buggy) and a lot of racers have them, just waiting for a class - if you can encourage your friends then its a good start. My advice is to turn up regularly and run your electric in sportsman's. It will soon catch on and it will have its own class. This stands for monster truck and 1/8th electric as well. It will just take a little persistence and regular attendance and the class will take off. The only vehicles we do not accept is 1/5 scale.
Q: I want to become a member.
A: Print off the membership form in the membership section and fill it out. Bring it to a race meet and give in to a committee member. Best time is at drivers registration at around 9:15am. Bring along your car and run it in the sportsman's class for the day, there are plenty of others that are learning just like you.
Q: Do i need to bring a table and chair
A: The club has a limited number of tables and chairs available. If you have your own, bring it. Especially to bigger meetings.
Q: Is there power available at the track
A: Generally there is no power available unless it is a meet catering for interstate drivers. We do have guys with generators there most weekends but you cant rely on it.
Q: What time does racing start and and finish
A: Track opens 8:30 am, with drivers registration closing at 9:30 am. We aim to have the day finished by approximately 3:00pm
Q: I don't have a personal transponder are they available to buy / rent?
A: Transponders are available from race control. You are assigned the transponder for the day, and must return it at the end. We encourage you to get your own however.
Q: Other that turning up with Car / Radio / Battery and good attitude what else to i need?
A: For electric - Charger tools and spares. For Nitro Glow Igniter, Fuel, Starter Box, tools and spares.
Q: What is the race format?
A: The race format is 2 qualifiers followed by 3 finals. Each race duration is 7 minutes. There is approximately 40 minutes between rounds, more is there is enough runners for an electric or short course class. 2 batteries is probably sufficient for electric.
